Q: Do you offer piercings for minors?
A: Yes. We start accepting piercing clients at age 7. However, we must have state issued IDs for both the minor AND the adult. The parent/guardian has to be physically present in the building the entire duration of the appointment. We do not accept permission slips, phone calls from parents, school ID or SS cards. In the case the minor is in custody of someone other than their parents, we will need notarized documents that show that child is in the custody of another adult. We can’t pierce minors who are studying abroad, just visiting Grandma for the summer, etc. those situations do not qualify as legal guardianship with the health department.
Q: How do I know if my young child is ready to get their first piercing?
A: We suggest being upfront, honest, and realistic with your child about what to expect. Piercings hurt. Think about how your child handles situations at doctor visits, immunizations, dentist visits etc. If you sugarcoat that or minimize the pain aspect, once your child is here and gets one ear lobe done, you may not see them finish the set of piercings. We do our best to talk children through their experience, but we will never force a child to get a piercing after they have told us “No”. Once we have begun the piercing process in our piercing room, we have to charge the full amount of the service and jewelry cost whether or not both piercings are performed. Once sterile items are put onto a tray contaminated by your child, we cannot reuse any product nor can we get our service providers time back. Also scroll down and check out “things to consider” below for more considerations that apply to minors.
Q: Is your shop an APP studio?
A: Yes! Our shop membership was activated in August of 2025 and both Christine and Lyss hold current memberships.
Q: Is there anything I can do to prepare myself for a piercing appointment?
A: Piercings go really well for folks who are showered, well rested, hydrated, and recently fed.
Q: Can I bring a guest for support?
A: Yes, our piercing room has space for two guests, although it is up to the piercers discretion how many extra folks are allowed in. If guests are loud, distracting, etc we may have to remove guests from the piercing room. We have the most issues with small children accompanying their parents’ appointments. We strongly prefer to not have any small children in the studio unless the child is the client getting services or has a designated adult not receiving services to supervise them.
Q: I took out my jewelry and now the piercing has closed. Can I be re-pierced in the same spot?
A: That depends! You may still have a viable piercing! Piercings that have had jewelry in them consistently for over 1 year are likely to be permanent. When jewelry is removed for an extended period of time the piercing channel can collapse, which can make reinserting jewelry very difficult to do at home. Our staff will use a tool called a taper to check the piercing channel. Often times, piercings that clients thought were long closed can be reopened and used again! Our record for oldest piercing reopened is over 40 years old! That said, there are some circumstances where either re-piercing or alternative solutions may be offered:
Q: Can I bring my own jewelry to be pierced with?
A: No. Not only is this a requirement of our insurance, unfortunately not all metals and jewelry styles are appropriate for initial piercings. We carry brands that adhere to industry standards in metal composition and polish.* In order to set you up for success with your new piercing our staff will help you to choose jewelry from our extensive selection. The only exception is jewelry purchased from our shop. We are able to reprocess appropriate pieces to use for initial piercings. Jewelry will need to be brought to the shop (in a sealed bag) prior to your scheduled piercing. The process to prepare jewelry to safely re-use in a fresh piercing takes one week at minimum, and incurs a cost of $10 in addition to the piercing fee.

You are welcome to call and we can always check to see if the piercer of the day is willing to add to their schedule, or you may join our waitlist on our booking site and we will happily call you in, in the case of a last minute cancellation.

A: Our piercing fee includes the cost of the service (the piercing) and an implant grade (ASTM F136) titanium flat back labret (backing) for threadless jewelry.
Q: How much will the jewelry cost?
A: We carry a wide selection of jewelry from several different brands. We do our best to provide accessible options for all budgets and lifestyles. Titanium ends start at $15 per piece and gold ends usually start at $70 depending on what is currently in stock. A: Yes. Parties are for adults 18 and over only. Please email theforestcu@gmail to inquire about private piercing parties! We require a deposit for booking a party. The deposit amount will depend on the amount of people and piercings to be performed.
Q: Can I special order jewelry?
A: Yes! Our staff are happy to help you order jewelry from many of the brands we carry. If needed, we will schedule an appointment to take measurements and ensure a correct fit. A non refundable 50% deposit will be taken at the time of the order with the remaining balance due within 2 months or at the time of installation, whichever comes first.
Q: How long will my piercing take to heal?
A: The short answer is longer than you may think! Many times a piercing will appear healed on the outside but the fistula (the inside “tube” or “hole” formed by the piercing) takes much longer to heal. Changing/removing jewelry too frequently or too soon can cause irritation and prolong the healing process. We use the following general guidelines for paperwork. Please keep in mind these are general estimates and things like lifestyle, climate, and health conditions can affect healing time!
*Piercings through thicker cartilage such as the anti-tragus and snug typically have healing times of over 12 months. Our staff will discuss this with you at the time of your appointment
Things to consider before getting a new piercing
Do you plan to go swimming in the near future?
We strongly discourage submerging new piercings for the first 8-12 weeks of healing. The water from bathtubs, pools, lakes, and oceans can expose your new piercing to bacteria and foreign material which can result in irritation and even infection. Often this needs to be treated by a doctor and may result in having to remove the piercing.
For minors- Do you participate in any sports or extracurricular activities?
Many contact sports and dance teams either forbid visible piercings or require them to be removed for participation. We recommend waiting until the off season for new piercings. In our experience, a coach may approve of a piercing, but ultimately at game time a referee may deem otherwise and you’re in a pickle quickly. Please do your research as different leagues, schools, and organizations have different rules.
Are you traveling in the near future?
Air travel and different climates can cause increased swelling for new and even existing piercings. While not impossible to manage it can certainly get in the way of a fun vacation!
Are you scheduled for any procedures or advanced imaging?
Removing jewelry, even for a short period of time during the healing period can result in the loss of the piercing or other negative side effects such as infection or irritation. If you have a procedure or imaging scheduled within the next 6 months it may be better to wait to get a new piercing. Your doctor can offer guidance on requirements for your specific needs.
● Medical procedures - hospitals typically require all body jewelry to be removed prior to most procedures. This is not only due to the risk of jewelry loss, but certain equipment used during procedures can cause complications if metal is left in the body.
● CT scans - if a piercing is in the area being scanned it will need to be removed. Metal will cause a “starburst” artifact in the image which affects the doctor’s ability to read the scan.
● MRI- although the jewelry that we stock is typically MRI safe, hospitals will likely still require it to be removed prior to the scan due to the risk of damage to the machine. Also, like CT scans, metals like titanium and gold near the area being scanned may cause an artifact in the image.
● Other types of imaging such as ultrasound may also require jewelry removal depending on the location, please consult your doctor for guidance and hospital policies.
We are happy to assist in jewelry removal should you need us! Please schedule a jewelry removal appointment as soon as you know your procedure date to ensure we have availability. The cost for a jewelry removal appointment starts at $10. The fee for the appointment is dependent on factors such as number of piercings to be removed and the where the jewelry was purchased.
